Thekchen Choling (Melaka)
Thekchen Choling (Melaka) is a Vajrayana Buddhist Temple founded by Singha Thekchen Namdrol Rinpoche since 2012. The temple is affiliated to Thekchen Choling (Singapore), founded in 2001 by Singha Thekchen Namdrol Rinpoche.
Thekchen Choling (Malaysia) is a spiritual haven that provides Buddhists with an understanding of Buddha's 84,000 holy teachings through Dharma teachings and discussions. The temple aims to provide the community with a Buddhist perspective of life and to benefit the community. To serve the needs of people in Melaka we also intend to launch a series of educational talks on the importance of holistic living — allowing us to present the timeless Buddhadharma in a manner applicable to everyone, everywhere, so each may find their own path to inner peace and joy.
"Thekchen Choling is more than just the physical temple. It is an open and inclusive community of people coming together for the Dharma."
Our
Vision
"Connecting All with Divine Hearts"
The vision of our temple is a special wish for all students and devotees to cultivate the divine heart of Lord Buddha — to practise and put into action the Buddhadharma with an open heart, so as to become fully enlightened for the benefit of all sentient beings.
Our
Mission
"Empowering All to have Meaningful Lives"
As aspiring Bodhisattvas, we strive to reach out and empower everyone with love, compassion and wisdom — the essence of Buddha's teachings.
Spreading the Buddha's teachings and preserving rich Buddhist tradition, such as its culture and architecture.
Engaging in the spiritual development of our students and devotees and fostering harmony with other religions and faiths.
Creating social impact by providing care and support to the needy regardless of race, language or religion.
Love
This love we have is beyond self.
Reverence
We pay reverence to the divine in every individual.
Altruism
We give service to all beings so that they can feel they are being seen.
These three values, when combined, give us the heart of Bodhicitta, the spirit of awakening — wanting the clarity and awareness of Enlightenment.
Milestones
Over the Years — the story of Thekchen Choling, from Thong Soon Road to Melaka.
Thekchen Choling hosts its first students
On March 20th 1999, the late Geshe Lama Konchog (now reincarnated as His Eminence Tulku Tenzin Phuntsok Rinpoche), instructed Singha Rinpoche to start a dharma centre. Geshe-la's vision was to overcome the prevailing belief that one could only practise the Buddhadharma as an ordained Sangha. Rinpoche rented a house on Thong Soon Road to conduct his Buddhist teachings and activities.
Thekchen Choling (Singapore) is formally registered
Housed in a double-storey premise at the foot of Bukit Timah Hill, our place of worship relocated here to accommodate a growing student body.
A temporary space in Pasir Panjang
In its first two years of inception, Thekchen Choling transformed the lives of many followers. With the blessings of the late Khensur Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup (now reincarnated as His Eminence Thubten Rigsel Rinpoche) during his visit, the temple made plans to secure a permanent premise within the next five years. Meanwhile, we moved into a commercial space in Pasir Panjang to house our ever-expanding crowd of followers.
Settling into Beatty Lane
After a long period of searching and negotiating, Thekchen Choling acquires its own temple building in 2006. Having grown from a cosy apartment into a dharma centre in the city, Thekchen Choling is proud to have become the most active Vajrayana Buddhist temple in Singapore.
Teaching in Malaysia for the first time.
For years, followers from Malaysia wanted to help their fellow countrymen dharma teachings and community outreach programmes. On 15 October 2012, Thekchen Choling (Melaka) — a society officially approved by the Malaysian Federal Government to operate as a Buddhist temple — invited Singha Rinpoche and some disciples from Singapore to participate in its opening activities.
Thekchen Choling Kota Tinggi Meditation Centre invited Singha Rinpoche to bestow blessings on the land
In late 2013, a generous benefactor in Kota Tinggi requested Rinpoche to give his plot of land a blessing. Members of Thekchen Choling were invited for the land blessing. This land would later became home to Thekchen Choling Kota Tinggi Meditation Centre—a two-acre complex that houses dormitories, retreat rooms and a hall that sits 500. The centre is ideal for individual and group retreats.
In the year of the Wooden Horse, the 29th day of the eighth lunar month, Singha Rinpoche was invited for the opening of Thekchen Choling USA (Syracuse). Accompanied by a small entourage of Singaporean disciples, Rinpoche gave a series of teachings and empowerments in Syracuse. The new temple offered the Americans a sanctuary for the cultivation and practice of the Buddhadharma.
Building of 11.5m Chenrezig statue
Specially commissioned by Singha Rinpoche, this magnificent statue of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig stands at 11.5m tall (largest in Southeast Asia). It is beautifully adorned with pearls, corals, turquoise and dzi-beads. Within the statue are Dharma texts, precious relics and holy objects granted by His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama, His Holiness Sakya Trizin, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, H.E the 102nd Ganden Tri Rinpoche, H.E. the 5th Dagri Rinpoche, H.E. the 6th Kyabje Jhado Rinpoche, H.E Tsikey Chokling Rinpoche, H.E Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche and many other precious lineage gurus. The construction and consecration of this most holy statue was auspiciously completed on May 2016.
Invitation to the inaugural opening of Kota Tinggi Meditation Centre
In conjunction with the Guru Rinpoche Retreat, Singha Rinpoche and participants of the retreat were invited to participate in the opening of the Kota Tinggi Meditation Centre. The event was graced by the Guest of Honour YB Datuk Tee Siew Kiong and our precious guru, Singha Rinpoche.
Teaching and Guidance
Thekchen Choling USA (Syracuse) relocated to 109 East Avenue Minoa, New York 13116 in early 2017. Kyabje Jhado Rinpoche and Singha Rinpoche were both invited to give advice regarding the setting up of the new centre's prayer rooms. With heartfelt efforts from the US disciples and the invited visitors from Singapore and Mongolia, the new temple was consecrated on 18th September 2017 by Jhado Rinpoche and Singha Rinpoche.
Singha Rinpoche advised on the relocation

Our Logo

Our logo is an ornate golden-framed sacred mirror with a pinnacle formed by a white crescent moon, a flaming red sun and an orange flame of fire. Light rays radiate from the mirror as it stands on a full moon disc atop a blue lotus flower. Wrapped with a golden flowing khata, the mirror is protected by a pair of dragons and surrounded by the seven gems of a Chakravartin, framed by nine precious jewels.
Our Emblem
As Thekchen Choling steps into a new chapter, we are honoured to unveil our new Hung logo — a creation born from the hands of the renowned Tashi Mannox, a master whose art bridges two worlds: the sacred depth of ancient Tibetan and Mongolian script blending with the bold expression of modern design.
With this new emblem, the clarity of the awakened mind takes shape — simple yet profound, ancient yet alive in the present moment. It is more than a logo; it is the very mirror of our spiritual essence and a beacon guiding humanity into the future.
